In January, SDA had a weekend of celebration and protest for the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. On Saturday January 18 we gathered for a demonstration at Bryant and 24th Street, then marched to 19th and Dolores to build our people power and stand in solidarity with our members and immigrant community. We also had the opportunity to participate in the 2nd Annual Disability Justice is Beloved Community gathering at the Ed Roberts campus.

On Sunday January 19, we gathered at the Civic Center for a demonstration of the power of organizing and fighting back. Hundreds of people came with their organizations, coalitions, families and communities to say that we are ready to defend our social programs, community achievements, health care, education and social justice. We marched to Union Square and went back to Civic Center to celebrate our community's resilience.

On Monday, we commemorated the peaceful radicalism of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hundreds gathered at Oscar Grant Plaza to show our unity in the face of the challenges of a government that wants to break our communities. The march was led by disability-focused organizations including our SDA group along with Hand in Hand. We look forward to more opportunities this year to take to the streets and join with our members and allied organizations in resistance, as we face such trying times.
