Empowerment Programs

Survival School

We empower seniors and people with disabilities to take action in their communities. Utilizing presentations, discussions, and popular education, we train seniors and people with disabilities to effectively access vital community resources and to exercise their rights. Senior and Disability Survival School shares resources and accessible information to people with disabilities and seniors throughout San Francisco.

Attend Senior and Disability Survival School (SDSS)! Learn about healthcare, transportation, benefits, & housing and know your rights. Each session (2 or 4 classes) of Senior and Disability Survival School includes presentations from a variety of service providers, city workers, and advocates. Classes are free of cost and are offered in neighborhoods throughout San Francisco. To date, Senior and Disability Survival School has trained over 3000 seniors and people with disabilities. We have translated our classes and materials into nine languages including Spanish, Cantonese, Russian, Korean, and Tagalog. Our graduates become strong advocates for themselves and for their communities. For more information about future Survival School sessions being offered, or if your organization is interested in hosting a Survival School, contact our SDSS Coordinator Liza at liza@sdaction.org.
