Senior and Disability Action Awarded Grant from Fair Work Leadership Fund
Grant combines financial resources and organizational development support to strengthen worker rights movement in California.
SAN FRANCISCO (March 17, 2025) – Senior and Disability Action is proud to announce it has been awarded a grant from the Fair Work Leadership Fund, a program of The LeadersTrust in partnership with The James Irvine Foundation.
The program awards approximately 30 organizations in the CA worker rights ecosystem two-year, flexible grants, combined with leadership and organizational development support to help strengthen organizations, accelerate impact, and increase organizational sustainability.
“Most grassroots leaders don’t have the flexible, long-term support they need for their organizations to thrive. Instead, they’re picking and choosing priorities and making sacrifices to keep the lights on,” said Sidney Hargro, CEO, The LeadersTrust. “We are grateful for The James Irvine Foundation’s partnership and excited for how organizations will use these funds to imagine and build a new world.”
Grant recipients are affiliated with one or more of the following coalitions and networks: California Domestic Workers Coalition, National Domestic Workers Alliance, National Day Laborer Organizing Network, National Employment Law Project, and PowerSwitch Action that support workers in a number of industries that pay low-wages.
“The Fair Work Leadership Fund will help worker rights organizations better serve and organize workers in low-wage industries across California to protect labor rights, advocate for better working conditions, and ultimately expand economic opportunity for workers and their families,” said Yungsuhn Park, Fair Work Initiative Director, The James Irvine Foundation. “The Irvine Foundation is thrilled to partner with the LeadersTrust to support the growth and sustainability of these critical frontline organizations.”
The James Irvine Foundation’s goal is a California where all low-income workers have the power to advance economically, yet many workers are denied opportunities to influence the economic decisions that impact their lives and opportunities for advancement. The Fair Work initiative furthers the Foundation’s goal with the belief that low-income workers can strengthen their economic futures by gaining a greater voice in decisions about their jobs, lives, and communities.
