A Message From Our New Executive Director, Erik Greenfrost

Hello, and happy Giving Tuesday! I’m so excited to be joining the SDA team as the new Executive Director. I’ve been living in the Bay Area for over 17 years, and in that time I’ve been an activist with groups like UCSA and The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a union leader and organizer with UAW and AFT, a board member with SFGMC and SVGMC, a professor at CCSF, and a community engagement manger with SFJAZZ. I hope to build on all of that experience as we work on collectively writing the next chapter for SDA.

I’ve been learning so much about this incredible organization, including about our Members. The contributions of our Members and Sustainers  – not just financially but also with your time and energy – is the reason SDA is able to do the work that we do. If you aren’t already a Member, you can sign up online, or connect with any of our organizers to fill out a paper form. And thank you to everyone that has already signed up or renewed!

I know that the winter season brings a variety of emotions, especially this year.  Whether you’re feeling fear, hope, anger, joy, or determination, I encourage folks to lean into each other and build community.  Now more than ever it’s important for us to come together and support each other.  Consider joining one of our Program Groups (see the schedule at the bottom of this email!), and I hope to meet many of you at the General Meeting on Thursday, December 12.

In solidarity,

Erik Greenfrost
