Senior and Disability Action was delighted to have a strong contingent of 13 people at the 10th Annual Disability Capitol Action Day. 2500 people gathered in Sacramento on May 22nd to stand up for the rights of people with disabilities. Said Maria Cristina Salem, “I’ve never seen so many people with disabilities together in my life! I loved seeing all the young people dancing.” It was a beautiful sunny day for an energetic march, an inspiring rally, and an educational resource fair.
We visited the offices of San Francisco’s two state Senators and two state Assembly- members, to discuss restoring budget cuts and passing legislation regarding housing and other issues. It was a vibrant event, run by people with disabilities, incredibly diverse in terms of disability, race, age, and geographic area. We were proud to be part of a group communicating a strong and visible message of disability rights and justice to our state legislators and the broader community. “We’re here, we’re loud, we’re disabled and proud!”
